The Deb Dawson Series
Version History
Original cover of the First Edition of Deb Dawson Psychic & Spiritualist published in December of 2019, depicting Deb Dawson’s neon window shop sign. Cover art by bavarart from Fiverr.
The Deb Dawson series is Keith McCabe’s only series thus far. The books feature Deb Dawson, a lowly New Jersey psychic, who can speak to the dead. Her mastery of tarot cards can divulge intimate details of people’s lives, and she reads tarot for customers at her humble psychic shop located in the fictional Hilmont, New Jersey. But Deb’s unique powers often makes her a target for nefarious occult practitioners, and her compulsion to help others draws the attention of evil people.
Originally published under the title Deb Dawson Psychic & Spiritualist in December of 2019, the first book underwent a name change upon the release of the sequel, Jersey Gothic. The first book was renamed to Jersey Graves in June of 2023, four months after the release of Jersey Gothic. The title change was to avoid confusion, as well as to rebrand the series under the “Jersey” moniker.
But Jersey Graves is the exact same book as Deb Dawson Psychic & Spiritualist, just with a different name and cover to fit the themes of the series.
The first Deb Dawson book underwent only minor changes prior to the name change . Some improvements included correcting spelling and grammatical issues. However, the story of Deb Dawson Psychic & Spiritualist remained intact in the rebranded Jersey Graves. But prior to the renaming, the first Deb Dawson book had a Second and Third Edition with unique covers with each edition.
The Second and Third editions featured artwork by rock_0407 from Fiverr. The Second Edition showcased Deb Dawson at her desk, the neon background emblematic of her shop sign window. The Third Edition, also by rock_0407, was more in line with the paranormal aspects of the story by showing Deb’s face up close, half human half skull.
The Third Edition released alongside the publication of Jersey Gothic, but the dissimilar titles and drastically different artwork could be confusing. Four months after the release of Jersey Gothic, the first book underwent the title and cover change to better fit the tone of the series. The cover to the rebranded Jersey Graves featured a woman lying on the ground, presumably Deb Dawson, in what could be the final scene of the book in which Deb confronts her nemesis, Alabaster Sovran, in a secret cemetery. The new cover was more reminiscent of the mystery/thriller genre, and the new title better reflected the main plot of the story wherein witches’ graves were being vandalized.
Once the first Deb Dawson book was renamed to Jersey Graves, all previous editions were taken off market. However, since previous editions are still shown on seller websites, it was important to document the history of the first book to address any possible confusion.
