An unfinished film has been hidden away in a New York insane asylum. The only clue to its origin is a name written on a faded label, Maynard Burke, a reclusive and controversial director with a loyal cult following. Amanda Sloan, a retired actress, and Louis Bardon, a notable film editor, are tasked with authenticating the film and tracking down its mysterious director.
